Effective response to major challenges: Rationale and modalities of EU action in International Organisations
Over the past decades the competences of the European Union (EU) have considerably increased. In the same period globalization has made that many important problems have emerged that are the remit of specialized international organisations (IOs). These two trends have produced a growing need for the EU to be an effective actor in the relevant IOs. The OECD and the ILO are competent for resp. smart and inclusive growth. We describe the complicated interrelations of the EU and these two IOs. We describe further the variety of forms of cooperation that these three organisations have developed. We make some suggestions to improve the effectiveness of EU action. Finally we formulate some ideas about further research into the EU-OECD relation.
